Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management

App State's Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management combines foundation business courses with a variety of courses providing knowledge and understanding of the health care industry.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Care Management program prepares students to lead organizations as managers and administrative professionals in a variety of health care organizations.

Health care managers steer health care organizations to make them more accessible, efficient, profitable and equitable.

Leaders in health care managerial roles must develop a broad set of skills, such as communication and leadership, to guide their organizations to success. They need to perform many different tasks well, including analyzing data, communicating with diverse groups, delegating tasks and utilizing new technologies.

Faculty Mentoring

Since a professional advisor in the Office of Advising and Student Support works with students to understand program requirements and build a graduation plan, it gives Health Care Management (HCM) faculty additional time for meaningful conversations with students about professional standards and responsibilities, as well as pathways to both graduate schools and careers.

Of course, mentoring relationships evolve organically for many of our students and faculty both inside and outside the classroom, but the Health Care Management program is also intentional about carving out time for these important topics in its required professional development course. Students are also matched with an individual faculty mentor when they declare their major.

Careers

The health care industry encompasses a diverse array of organizational settings and management opportunities within these organizations. Trained health care managers can work either in organizations where health care is delivered or in organizations that support health care delivery.

Some examples of where health care managers work are:

Health care management is experiencing rapid growth and offers excellent salaries. As of May 2023, medical and health services managers had a median annual salary of $110,680, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS projects that the demand for health care services will grow by 28 percent from 2022 to 2032, a growth rate faster than the average for all occupations.

Accreditation

The Health Care Management program is certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), 2000 14th Street North, Suite 780, Arlington, VA 22201, Phone: 703-894-0940.
